But not all grown-ups end up with what they wanted to be when they were a kid. There can be a lot of things to consider before pursuing a career. The basic factor is interest; if you are interested in your chosen path then you are most likely to succeed.

There are certain phases in a person’s life where he or she is confused with the path to take. This is okay, it’s normal; all people go through this stage. The secret to overcoming it is to determine whether you are happy with what you are doing.

If you are currently stuck in this phase, below are some tips to help you figure out what you really want.

What is your Dream Career?

Remember that dream job of yours when you were still young? If you still haven’t reached it and you still want it now, then maybe it’s telling you something. Think of it this way, especially if you are currently employed: if you do not have a job, what would you be doing right now? The answers to this question may not be smart and practical but at least it a place to start thinking.

What are your Hobbies?

Just like your interests, think of something that you like to do during your free time and consider it a possibility for a career. Hobbies usually correspond to real world demands in the employed world. For example, you like video games. Then maybe you can apply as a game designer or programmer.

What were the Things you Enjoyed at School?

Think of your favorite subject when you were still in school and this could be a stepping stone for you. However, there might be some areas that will require more schooling than others, but that would not be a problem for you if it is really your interest.

What are your Skills?

Consider things you were good at in the past, even at school. Not all people have the same set of skills and some might be even more in demand in the employment world more than others. Skills such as cooking and carpentry can be easily turned into a career.

How Well do you Interact with Others?

Communication and social skills are as important as practical skills, especially when looking for the perfect career for you. Some careers will expose you to people and it will be a great career if you are the interactive type of person. If you like taking care of people, you might want to consider getting in the health care industry.

Consider your Financial Needs

Some people no longer pursue the career they really want due to financial restrictions because some careers require specialization or further schooling. If this is one of your concerns, you should not let your financial capabilities hold you from making your dreams come true. There are a lot of scholarships offers and grants both in the public and private sector; you just have to find one that you can apply for.
